Valuing Life

Look at these two women! Do you know what they are doing? Not only are they caring about their own bodies and enjoying a healthy life, but they are also trying to persuade others to follow their example. They are not forcing anyone into something they don’t want, they are just suggesting a different lifestyle that is possible and that makes you feel better in some way. Sometimes, we don’t pay attention to what we do, and we just act in a certain way because society has imposed that to us or because the others do the same, and we don’t stop to think that maybe we are wrong, or that we could do something different. The thing is that it takes just a decision and a little effort, for those who love eating meat, to save the life of beings that, although they can not think, they surely feel. They feel pain, they feel fear, and they perceive that they are going to be killed, just as we would in that situation. If you cannot see that in the same way than me, at least consider the harmful effects that eating meat can have on your body, such as cancer (because of the toxins that are created in our body as a result of the ingestion of meat), cardiovascular disorders including heart attacks (due to the high quantity of fat in the arteries), cholesterol, etc. And, if these reasons are not enough to convince you to give vegetarianism a try, just think that we aren’t superior to animals, we’re just the same. Or is it that we have the right to kill them just because they are irrational? Imagine (although it’s unreal) if some day a race superior to us comes to the world, and tries to eat us because we’re inferior….would you accept it? I wouldn`t!!!
This photograph really called my attention because, even though I always try to talk about vegetarianism and its advantages with my friends and family, I never thought of doing it in such a public and broad way. Anyway, there must be other ways of divulging it rather than exposing the body. Well, what matters is the intention, doesn’t it?

"I think the changes and purifying effects that a vegetarian diet has on a human being's disposition are quite beneficial to mankind. Therefore, it is both auspicious and peaceful for people to choose vegetarianism.” Albert Einstein

Just think about it! Let’s open our mind to something different!

  1. I have a friend who thinks the same way you do. Although I'm not a vegetarian myself and I don't intend to be one either, I respect her opinion as well as yours. In relation to what these women do, I wonder, is it necessary to allude to physical traits to convince others than eating meat is not ok? It seems to be that they are suggesting that the body of a vegetarian is more "desirable" than that of a woman who actually eats meat. What do you think?

  2. I couldn’t agree with you more on the fact that you could choose a different lifestyle that makes you feel better. I admire your conviction and courage for sharing your point of view in this public way. By the way, I love eating meat =)

  3. I have considered the possibility of changing my eating habits, but it would be a waste of money and time at this point in my life, besides, I really like meat. I know it is not so healthy, but for instance chicken or any kind of poultry is sort of lean meat, low in fats. Then you have fish which contains omega-3, good for your health. The key for a healthy diet is to vary what you eat.

  4. Meli, I think, as I said in the post, that there are other ways of "convincing" others rather than exposing the body...I think the same way you do in relation to that. I don`t know if they believe that their body is better than others(possibly they do), but maybe what they want is to really call the attention of the people. Again, I wouldn`t do it in that way..!

  5. Well, first of all, I love eating meat and I dislike eating vegetables, so I couldn't possibly became a vegetarian, it would be torture!ja.However, I think that your point is good since we could have a healthier life if we stop eating meat.

  6. Well I think this is such a controversial issue although some people do not pay attention to it. I think I could not become a vegetarian for many reasons, which I won't explain, not only because I like meat. But I believe it is not such a simple objective to have an entire race become vegetarian. There are a lot of issues involved in the fact that in general human beings, not everybody but most of us,have meat as one of the main componets of our daily diet. Of course I am not an expert but there sure is historical, biological, economic, and much more evidence which I don't know that somehow justifies or at least explains why we eat meat. So far I don't consider myself an unhealthy person...I'm fine but, anyway, since I tend to be openminded, I have thought of trying to be vegetarian. For sure I will try because I think it is important to understand people who do not eat meat and also to prove whether it is the same or not!! So, you will be the first to know when I start that diet!!
